A Book for Every Child is one of Zebulon Pike Chapter’s favorite service projects. There is an under-served school in Colorado Springs the chapter has worked with and supported for over ten years. It started with donating hats and mittens to one class of children, then turned toward a literacy focus for one grade level, then two, then every child in the school. One of our members wrote a poetry unit for the school, and taught the children herself as a volunteer. She saw the need for a literacy commitment from our chapter to the children of the school. For many of the children at Will Rogers Elementary in Colorado Springs, the book they are given in December by Zebulon Pike Chapter is the first book they have ever owned.
Zebulon Pike Chapter believes that literacy is an important key to success and a bright future. It is the cornerstone of education in which the next generation will thrive.
