Zebulon Pike Chapter has some die-hard genealogists who are willing to go the extra mile, that is all the way to Salt Lake City, Utah for concentrated, focused research on Revolutionary War patriots and supplemental patriots. Once a member proves her patriot, she has the opportunity to search and prove other patriots, called supplemental patriots. Early March 2017, twelve determined Zebulon Pike researchers headed to the Family History Library for a week of uninterrupted library time.
Some flew, some drove, but everyone ended up at the same hotel in Salt Lake City just steps from the Family History Library. Getting started in the library means entering some basic family tree information that gets put into a database that shows famous people that one could be related to, maps of where your ancestors came from, and what was happening during your ancestor’s timeline dates.
What a fun and exciting start to ancestor research. A basic computer search into familysearch.org to get the researcher started was key. The library in Salt Lake City holds microfiche and volumes and volumes of information about all of the states and even countries. Having “ah, hah” moments made the time in deep research worthwhile.
There was lots of time to eat meals together, tour some of the Salt Lake City attractions, talk and laugh and get to know each other on a whole different level.
Everyone had loads of fun and many found that ancestral connection that they had been looking for forever. The genealogy team is already planning another trip!
